Demonstrate knowledge of the sport to be coached. Help each participant achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. Head coach should be able to plan for and oversee an articulated program as a part of an elementary to varsity continuum. Other relevant duties including but not limited to: oversee and hire a competent staff of assistant/feeder program coaches (when applicable), schedule contests for the team, fundraise and balance program funds, adhere to all KHSAA and BOE requirements for coaches, create and lead practices to improve the team, work with the strength and conditioning coach to schedule sessions to improve the athletes' overall physical fitness, communicate to parents/guardians the team expectations and schedule, and work with school administration regularly.
For this type of employment, state law requires a national and state criminal history background check and have a letter, provided by the individual, from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services stating the employee is clear to hire based on no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect found through a background check of child abuse and neglect records maintained by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services as a condition of employment.
